EAOS Courses

National and international courses 2018 – European Academy of Senology (EAoS)
Concept and content for the senologic Academy with an operational focus

Preamble
Senology (teaching the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease) is fast becoming a highly specialized, organ-related field of study: including methods and knowledge from different disciplines. There exist guidelines for senology, which were compiled by experts from various fields.
In addition, guidelines have been established how so-called breast centers should be fully staffed and equipped. More and more breast units are certified in accordance with established criteria (DKG / DGS, NRW), or accredited (EUSOMA, DMP). Thus, there is a need for constant, competent senological capabilities.
These conditions create challenges particularly for physicians practicing health care for women. The assumption of coordinator functions at breast centers makes a summarized, multidisciplinary content-rich training curriculum essential.

Target
The goal of the Academy is to implement internationally-recognized senological service training through specialized training in senology, with an emphasis on practice; offering continuous improvement of senological patient care and the quality of results in the fields of senology via guideline-oriented subjects.

Method
An international, clinically experienced commission has developed an extensive training curriculum that is based on national and international guidelines. The creation and continuous updating of the curriculum is carried out in cooperation with the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) in Milan. The conveying of surgical techniques by live surgery, practical exercises and internships are the focus of the curriculum. The lessons are modular and interactive, which include case discussions and TED-voting; and is CME-certified (120 points). A training certificate, after completing the examination – in cooperation with the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) in Milan – is awarded.

* Preliminary dates:
The 4th international course of EAoS starts in June
The 17th national course of EAoS starts in September

Curriculum
The curriculum is based on international guidelines, and has been specially developed for the European Academy of Senology (EAoS) in Dusseldorf. The curriculum and its implementation are based on the latest scientific findings, embracing modern teaching practices and emphasizing interactivity.
A main focus is the surgical treatment of breast cancer in all stages. It also covers diagnosis, drug therapy, radiation therapy, psycho-oncological care and aftercare treatment. Processes for optimization of breast consultations and surgical management are handled, as well as management of complications and forensic aspects. Enclosed you will find the concept of EAoS, which you can review in detail.
